I'm not sure what they do different here...everything tasted quite different than most Ethiopian places I've been too, and it was a good thing!
It was like they were using coconut oil or something I don't know but whatever it is, it's working. Everything was delicious and creamy, just sopped right up into delicious Injera...Man I love this place! They are sooo nice too, the service here is first class!
The coffee is tasty and bold, basically rocket fuel as well. I am always eager to top my full belly off with it and keeps me moving around after that big meal!
They make their beets extra special and the doro-wot was my absolute favorite. I could not get enough and almost ordered another...I was pretty full already too.
I am dying to go back for more. -

I make a point of trying all the Ethiopian places I can visit because it's my favorite food. For the past 5 years nothing has beat my spot in the Bay Area, until now. The injera bread is the perfect texture and tang, the elements of the veggie combo - the legumes, the beets, the cooked greens, even the salad are each individually a feat, and together on one plate made me feel like a queen. And my favorite, the shiro wot, was so complex and well-spiced!! Even their tea was the best! Very sweet ladies serving and cooking as well. All around a pleasure in a low-key environment with fresh flowers. Color me impressed!
Just remember, good food takes time. Enjoy. -

Aberus is by far my favorite Ethiopian spot in Portland. Don't let this unassuming strip-mall-ish location fool you, behind those doors is decadent platters bursting delicious ingredients ready to share with all your favorite people.
I get the vegetarian combo most times and practically lived off it to-go through the last rainy winter. Outside it was cold and sloshy but inside my stomach was a warm festival of flavors. -

Maybe the best meal I have ever had, and I have had a lot. Food great, beer cold, service wonderful. We will be going back.
